Someone was advertising AKC registerd shih tzu pups and I went to look at them and the mother and one of the pups had blue eyes. I thought all shih tzu were suppose to have dark eyes. Has anyone ever seen one like this?

Got to admit, I've never seen one with blue eyes. I know Husky's and Aussies can have blue eyes, but I've never heard of a Shih Tsu having blue eyes. Is the dog's coat mainly white? I've seen pure white Shelties, Great Danes and Australian Shepherds with blue eyes and they were all deaf. But as long as your dog is healthy, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes, there definitely is such a thing as a blue eyed Shih tzu. I had the pleasure of having one for 9 years. She was completely white, with blue eyes, and deaf. I was told by the breeder, when we got her as a puppy, that she may be deaf b/c she was all white and had blue eyes and the three went together genetically.

That is most likely due to a genetic mutation. The dog should act completely normal despite that
