I was thinking about getting "my first tarantula" thread started here

A beginner would say I haven't a clue were to start just wondering really what they are like to keep as pets?
what species tarantula would you recommend as a beginners one?
what size enclosure would you recommend?
    what substrate to use?
what are they like to handle?

    Are there main groups

I personally do not keep them because they do scare me a little but I am very interested by them.

what species tarantula would you recommend as a beginners one?

3 common choices are a Chiliean rose, a Pink toe or a Mexican red knee.

what size enclosure would you recommend?

They need quite small tanks but it depends on the spider e.g. some will need tall tanks, glass or plastic are the best choices.

    what substrate to use?

a mix of sphagnum moss and eco-earth are good. NOTE: cedar shavings are toxic

what are they like to handle?

They feel very delicate and extremely light, they don't really feel hairy and they move slowly

Here is me over coming my fear with one at the zoo. (it is a Chiliean rose)

Theres not many pets people have that i wouldn't go near, but trantulas i steer clear from, thats for sure :p
My friend use to have a trantula. My friend used an old small fish tank for the enclosure. He had a couple of rocks and hollow small logs in there for it.
