Shelter dogs used to rehabilitate heart bypass patients

    This is a fabulous idea! Wouldn't it be great if more shelters could use this same idea as a pitch to their local hospitals, senior centers and rehabilitation centers? It's a win-win situation for the dogs and the patients. :D Who knows, the lucky pooches might even end up being adopted. :D


    Bob Jescion uses a treat to inspire Lucy, an 8-year-old pug-beagle mix, while the pair walk last week at the Humane Animal Welfare Society in Waukesha. Jescion, of the City of Pewaukee, is one of a foursome of recovering cardiac patients from Waukesha Memorial Hospital who walk dogs at HAWS for rehabilitation exercise.
